At Atlantic, electric water heaters take anywhere from 20 minutes (for a small 15-liter under-sink model) to 6 hours (for a 500-liter floor-standing model) to fully heat their tanks.
Type of water heater and domestic hot water comfort
An electric water heater is a domestic hot water production appliance that can be installed in any type of home, regardless of your energy source and heating system. This type differs from a combi or indirect tank, which uses a separate heating source like a gas boiler or an air/water heat pump.
Storage water heaters
In general, storage water heaters heat up whenever you use hot water. Their insulation layer helps retain the heat inside the tank until it’s needed. Depending on the model, a storage water heater can be electric or thermodynamic. The water is heated either by an electric resistance or by a heat pump integrated on top of the tank.
This is the type of water heater that offers the most versions and configurations: wall-mounted electric water heater, vertical water heater, horizontal water heater, etc.
Heat Pump water heaters
Since these heaters use heat from the air (either ambient or outdoor) as their main energy source, heat pump water heaters that rely on ambient air typically have slightly longer heating times than standard electric water heaters.
Semi-storage water heaters
With a semi-storage water heater, several heating cycles may occur throughout the day when the appliance detects a higher demand for domestic hot water.
This means you’ll never have to worry about a cold shower!
The auxiliary water heater
An auxiliary water heater (or small-capacity water heater) operates similarly to a storage water heater — it reheats water after you’ve used the available hot water.
Although its heating time is short (around 23 minutes for a 15L model and 52 minutes for a 30L model), once the hot water supply is depleted, you’ll need to wait for the next heating cycle to have more.
Instantaneous water heaters
As their name suggests, instantaneous water heaters heat water instantly. They therefore have no heating time as they supply water on demand. For several countries it is installed directly in the shower as a single point product. Or it can be installed under a sink when it is a multi-point product. Check out our Tempo range.
Please note: the heating times indicated by Atlantic refer to reaching a temperature of 65°C in the tank (factory setting) in a room with an ambient temperature of 20°C. On some appliances, it is possible to set the water heater temperature to less than 65°C via the thermostat if you wish. This will slightly reduce the heating time. Please note: for your health and safety, never set the temperature below 55°C.
Heating time and capacity
The heating time of a hot water tank naturally depends on its capacity — the larger the tank (and the greater the volume of water to be heated), the longer it takes to reach the desired temperature.
It’s important to choose the right tank capacity for your household needs, as this will directly impact your hot water comfort.
Atlantic offers a wide range of water heater capacities ranging from 15L to 500L.
